Intersection analysis of sexuality and disability
This paper focuses on the intersection of disabled sexuality and queerness, as well as how oppression and power influence the lives of the queer and disabled in the articles ‘body shame, body pride and 'Compulsory Bodies: Reflections on Heterosexuality and Able-Bodiedness’. This approach focuses on how disability and other statuses interact to influence peoples’ experiences. Kafer (80) argues that compulsory able -bodiedness is imposed on people and non able-bodied are discriminated against more often than not (80). Similarly, there is a tendency to group queer people in the same category as disabled people through compulsory heterosexuality. Essentially, compulsory able-bodiedness has at times influenced people with disabilities to the extent that they feel incomplete and wish to have a part of non-disabled body. According to Clare (264), there are many instances where disabled people have no privacy over their bodies, as people make their opinions on supposed ‘defects’ among disabled people.
