The Adventure of a Photographer
At a certain age, one gets to handle their first camera. As one gets older, one tries to compete with others to determine who is better at taking photographs. Photography is an art, and many try to conquer it. But the truest of artists do not. Like any other form of art, photography is a powerful phenomenon. Parraggi’s attempts at capturing photographs with meaning to him are seen in Calvino’s short story. In the end, he decides that only after he achieves a particular photograph will he be done with pictures. But one doubts this. This paper provides a reaction to Calvino’s short story, “Adventure of a Photographer.”
One of the strategies that Parraggi uses to make photographs is the naturalistic approach. Parraggi tries to capture Bice in her most natural form. This is evident when Bice arrives at his studio. When she does, Parraggi explores her physical features to determine what makes up her character. Another approach that Parraggi uses props inclusion. Parraggi includes props while taking pictures of Bice in an attempt to make a perfect photograph. This can be seen when he sets her on an armchair and when he gets a racket for Bice to pose with. Each of these strategies relates to the history of photography because they have been repeated countless times. To date, people still take photographs with props, the most common being a chair.
