Scholarship Boy Reading Response
The article scholarship Boy by Richard Rodriguez reviews how Rodriguez managed to balance his family life and academic life to succeed. Coming from an uneducated home, he had a thirst for more knowledge, seeking out for new ways to study. In his quest to gain more knowledge, Richard spends most of his time reading books, he finally discovers himself in a different way when he stumbles upon Hoggart's description of a scholarship boy. The scholarship boy explains Richard experiences and the many sacrifices that made him a scholarship boy.
Richard constantly quotes several passages throughout his writing to compare himself with Hoggart's description of a scholarship boy. Both Rodriguez and Hoggart present a different version of a scholarship boy. Although the two definitions are intertwined, Rodriguez experienced the life of being a scholarship boy as Hoggart presents his perception of a scholarship boy.
