In his novel Arrow of God, Chinua Achebe delivers a masterpiece that one is inclined to “be caught sitting down to read again.” The book is quite captivating and makes one miss the writings of one Chinua Achebe. Achebe was indeed gifted, and the world will forever feel the void of his writing skills. The book is filled with a lot of themes which separately drive the story. However, one thing stands out for me in the novel. Throughout the novel, Achebe manages to evoke sympathy and apathy from readers towards some of the pivotal characters in the novel.
An example of how he does this is exhibited through the life of Ezeulu. In the novel, Ezeulu is held responsible for what happens in Umuaro.
