The person that comes to mind is Dr. Bass. I went to one of is speeches, and he held my attention the whole time. This was about a year before the pandemic but, would love if he decided to do another speech.
How does this person effectively use different method of verbal communication?
Dr. Bass is like listening to your grandfather telling you some fun story from the past. He speech was clear and he used words that everyone could understand. If he had to use the technical word for something then he would explain so that everyone could understand. He was warm and friendly and explained each slide thoroughly as to know what was happening and how Forensic anthropology works. He also gives a back story but just enough so that you get the jest but, not so long that it would get boring.
How does this person effectively use different methods of nonverbal communication?
The nonverbal communication that was used was mostly facial gestures and hand gestures. He used his hand to point out details in a slide and when he was talking about his wife his face would seem more relaxed and happy. One story of how he was boiling bones in his own kitchen and the water had boiled over and ruined her stove. He had to go out the next day and buy a new stove. When, he talked about a case that was difficult or left unsolved his face seemed more determined. The cases that was most sad such as the ones that involved children his face showed sadness and his posture seem to slouch more. One example of this was a small girl that was found in the woods. The could tell that she was abused when she was alive however, the never could find her identity or who had killed her.
Which communication method do you feel you could improve upon that most, and hand can your go about doing that?
For myself, I need to work on nonverbal communication. I know that I do not have many facial expression. I seem to have a poker face at all time. My husband often complains that he can not tell what I am feeling because I do not show and facial expressions. I often just tell him if I feel angry or excited or happy. This to annoys him, and he often tells me most people are easily readable and I just tell him that I am not most people. I know this is one type of nonverbal communication that I need to work on. I can start thinking that I need to remember to show the expressions more often in conversation mostly with my husband.
For verbal communication I need to work on my speech and how I talk. I am form the south and we tend to draw out our words and odd phrases that mean things. One of my favorites is you look like ten miles of bad road. I need to work on how I talk and learn not to use phrase that everyone would not understand. I also have speech problems for the most part people do not know unless I tell them or I have a moment where I can not speak well. For the most part this is due to stress, not enough sleep or even dehydration. I know how that I need to make sure that I get enough sleep and work on maintaining mental health.
