TAs will consider the following major components when grading the peerScholar assignment. Note that there is not a specific point value assigned to each of these items – this is simply the list of the factors that will be assessed when assigning points to your first and final drafts.

  • Does the student briefly summarize the test and its aims?
  • Does the student assess the test’s reliability and back up their assessment and back up their assessment with evidence from the test and/or external sources?
  • Does the student assess the test’s validity and back up their assessment with evidence from the test and/or external sources?
  • Does the student endorse at least one aspect of the test and back up their endorsement?
  • Does the student criticize at least one aspect of the test and back up their criticism?
  • Does the student utilize at least one theory of personality to inform their claims?
  • Are claims supported by cited research? (in-text citations, with an APA style reference list at end)
    • Students are expected to use at least one primary source (journal article) for their research, and will most likely need to use more than one primary source. Any claim to external knowledge that is not by backed by appropriate academic research should be considered un-supported, and will negatively impact the effectiveness of the argument.

    • Grading Notes:
      • Perfect marks reflect a very high standard and should be awarded sparingly
      • Academic Integrity:
        • Any suspected plagiarism should be brought to the attention of the Course Coordinator

Comments to Peers

  • Student must provide one positive comment and one constructive criticism for each peer assigned to them.
  • Mark for this section is based on the constructive criticism:
    • Were their comments helpful? Were they deep (i.e., not just mechanical)?
    • Did they indicate where a peer did not follow instruction, or indicate where there is room for improvement in one of the criteria from the assignment prompt?
    • Did they suggest HOW to improve?
    • Grading Notes:
      • Marks should be assigned only for comments containing depth (i.e. comments that deal with the content/approach). Shallow comments (e.g., poor grammar, sentence structure, etc.) do not count.
      • It is not sufficient to claim that there is no room for improvement in a peer’s paper.

In the end, it would tabulate the results and provide the persons Myers Briggs type. Reliability and Validity After conducting the same test for three times and answering the same choices over and over again, the author of this article found out that test itself is reliable. It does not deviate from its result when used repeatedly. Similarly, since its results are based from the personality inventory originally conceived by the scholars Katherine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers the repeatability of the results could easily be argued as valid. However, what the author noticed in the personality test is that the questions provided in the test are not only divided between ‘yes’ and ‘no’. Rather, the respondents are allowed to choose from a scalar type of questionnaire, with agree on the one end of the spectrum and disagree on the other. A ‘neutral choice’ is also provided in case that the respondents do now know the answer to these questions. Based on studies done on the same topic, providing ‘neutral’ choices could increase reliability of the answers significantly especially since not everyone knows the answer to the questions CITATION DeC17 \l 1033 (DeCastellarnau, 2017).
