This SLP is intended to allow you to apply the process of negotiation in an experiential way. Conflict is part of life, whether it is personal or professional. Using the assigned background readings, as well as some independent research of your own, apply what you have learned to a real life, practical case. Be sure to use subheadings to show where you are responding to each required item.
Identify an organization (without revealing proprietary information), and explain a specific conflict or issue that was negotiated.
Who were the parties involved, and what sides were taken in the conflict?
Choose a side. Which side do you choose, and why is it your choice?
Summarize your side’s process in the negotiation. What human behavioral factors came into play?
What were the defined interests of each side, and what were the entering and leaving points of your side?
How did the negotiation resolve? Was it successful?
The real live professional case would be negotiating to have better training at a hospital that I worked at. You can make up as needed but base the paper around trying to get better training working in billing and coding for a hospital. If you have any questions, please reach out.

A Professional Case for Negotiation
Identify an Organization and Explain a Specific Conflict or Issue that was negotiated.
The healthcare organization I worked with found itself in a conflict with the federal government over the need for training in billing and coding personnel. The issues were anchored on the premise that the federal government supported a training and educational curriculum implementation central to equipping the nurses and physicians with the knowledge to support accurate medical billing and coding application. The government argued that training would augment healthcare professionals’ ability to correctly bill insurance providers and collect vital information regarding procedures, treatments, as well as patient experiences (Burks et al., 2022). In this context, the federal government was required to design a strategy to enhance nurses’ practice competencies, thus enabling them to extract patient billable data from medical records and clinical documents to create insurance claims for clients during healthcare provision.
Who Were the Parties Involved, and What Sides were taken in the Conflict?
The parties involved were the healthcare organization leaders and federal government representatives from the United States (U.S.) Department of Health and Human Services. The healthcare organization leaders indicated the need for a better nursing education curriculum implementation to provide effective medical billing and coding expertise among physicians and nurses. Better training would protect the patients’ financial interests in the care delivery process by effectively translating client health records into easy-to-internalize formats that insurance utilizes to process claims. In this regard, the healthcare facility leaders required the federal government to enhance nurses’ medical billing and coding skills, such as the guidelines applied in coding and billing using the International Classification of Disease, Tenth Revision Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) in hospitals for each patient encounter. The federal government representatives argued that the government has already supported medical billing and coding by establishing better medical training centers where healthcare professionals can acquire competencies and expertise to provide effective healthcare services to all patients (Burks et al., 2022). Accordingly, the federal government representatives reiterated that the government has allocated and disbursed enough money to ensure proper medical billing and coding practices in healthcare organizations.
Choose a Side. Which Side Do You Choose, and why is it Your Choice?
I choose the side of healthcare provider leaders because they are negotiating for better training to acquire medical billing and coding skills which are essential aspects of daily healthcare practice. In addition, effective billing and coding competencies ensure that nurses and physicians take into account patients’ financial and insurance needs and guarantee legal compliance to ensure quality medical services to each patient (Burks, 2022). The need for more training in billing and coding skills...
