Communication strategies define how information is exchanged in an organization. The balanced scorecard (BSC) can be used by an organization to communicate strategy to employees and providing feedback to aid in achieving objectives. This paper reviews BSC as a communication strategy.
Robert Kaplan’s approach to conveying strategic communication using the BSC model is valid. This is because of the ease in communication brought upon by mapping the strategy together with its interrelated objectives in one piece of paper. This involves the strategic alignment of day-to-day activities for every employee, prioritizing projects, products, and services and also assessing the progress geared towards strategic objectives. It is aimed at helping not only the top executives but also everyone in the organization. Strategy mapping (strategy maps) is an important methodology in BSC used to envision and communicate how value is created in an organization.
