The first strategy I would use in a small group meeting if divergent opinions or solutions were proposed to solve a problem is to step in as a neutral and independent mediator. I would begin by evaluating the pros and cons of every proposed solution, over and above, try to understand the positions and interests of each party. By showing the vying parties that I am willing to listen to their arguments and concerns, the atmosphere becomes less charged, and everyone is ready to be impartial when determining the best idea or solution (Emmerling & Rooders, 2020). Another strategy I would use in the scenario is to help the vying parties separate the idea or solution from the person. During disagreements, it is very likely for emotions to flare up so that other issues besides the problem at hand get in the way of arriving at the best solution. I would first give every party an opportunity to vent. Once everyone has done so, it is easy to deescalate the situation so that cooler heads can objectively assess the value and appropriateness of each solution or idea. When people are less emotional and able to differentiate between personality and the problem, it becomes easy for everyone to determine in a fair manner the best resolution collectively.
My experience with budgeting, procurement, or vendor management has been both challenging and empowering. Navigating and comprehending the various titles, roles, and tasks in the fields is not easy. For instance, while procurement entails acquiring the supplies, goods, and services needed to meet the goals of an organization, it also involves minimizing expenses, maximizing value, and limiting chain risk. Maintaining the right balance between these roles is difficult. At the same, budgeting, procurement, or vendor management can also be empowering, in that one is entrusted with one of the most important functions in an organization. One is trusted with critical responsibilities, including supply chain management, negotiating contracts, conducting product and service market research, establishing procurement policies, and developing product specifications. Given the complexity and breadth of tasks, my experience has bolstered my overall problem-solving and decision-making skills. I have managed to learn how to define any arising issue, identify different solutions, select the best solution, monitor the progress of the solution in relation to different functions, and even develop related skills such as communication with suppliers.
In my opinion, the key ingredients in guiding and maintaining successful community relationships are trust, collaboration, communication, and social justice.
