Fire at Sea, has a been an award-winning film at a number of prestigious festivals. These includes the Berlin Film Festival Golden Bear and European Film Award. The film director Gianfranco Rosi is Italian and one of the most recognized directors at the moment. The film is set on a small Sicilian Island of Lampedusa. This is an island that thousands of African refugees are risking their lives to reach as they flee from their war-torn nations especially in the Middle East. While it may have started off a simple project, the film has generated massive followings, within the social circles and even in the political arenas. It is a film that is creating awareness at a significant rate, relative to the plight of the immigrants as they risk their lives and that of their loved ones in such of hope and peace. This is a film that has generated some sad feeling towards the sorry state of the war implications and the struggles of the refugees.
It is the encounters with such doctors such as doctor Pietro Bartolo who is seen to attend to the needs of the immigrants as they come in. this is a journey that most of the immigrants are not lucky to complete, despite the fact that, they give everything they own. In the end, some of them give their lives so that they loved ones can continue with the journey. It is only fair that they are offered the refuge that they seek. From the time Rosi starts documenting the plight of the refugees trying to reach the shores of Europe from the island of Lampedusa, more than 25, 000 people ...
