7 Ways Games Reward the Brain by Tom Chatfield: An Speech Analysis

Essay Instructions:

Please it should be 100% follow the teacher's instruction because I don't have a chance to request a revision and I have to get 100 out of 100. I will send the attachment. Please write with very simple and familiar words.
Thank you.

Directions:

1. Analyze one TED Talk Speech  – Choose any Informative or Persuasive TED or TEDx Talk speech. Do not choose an animated speech, otherwise you will not receive any points.  (No credit will be given for performances or other types of talks.)

Please go to www.ted.com. This is a brilliant resource for all kinds of speeches.

Find an informative or persuasive speech that interests you. If that speech turns out to be poorly constructed and delivered, you can still write about it.

There are two parts to this assignment. The first part focuses on content; the introduction to the speech. The second part focuses on the physical/vocal delivery of the speaker.

You should write the same amount of words for each part. In other words, do not write five lines about the introduction, 50 lines about the physical delivery, and two lines about the verbal delivery.

1. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE TITLE OF THE SPEECH AND NAME OF SPEAKER. YOU WILL LOSE 5 POINTS IF YOU FORGET.

2. WRITE IN PARAGRAPHS. You will not receive maximum points for writing one large paragraph.

3. MAKE SURE YOU PUT KEY WORDS IN BOLD (for example, hook, relevance, credibility, preview...)

The speech should not be one you have already written about in this class.

Format:

Unless your essay is correctly formatted, following the sample below, it will not be graded. That means you have to address each topic in the correct order, making sure each topic is in bold, so I can clearly identify the topics. Even if you include all the information requested, if your does essay not look like the format below, it won't be graded.

Format Sample:

(Cut and paste Parts One and Two, then  answer each question.)

TITLE OF TEDTALK AND NAME OF SPEAKER

PART ONE: CONTENT

  1. INTRODUCTION

Please view the speech and identify the five components of an introduction listed below.  Discuss whether your chosen speech appropriately and successfully makes use of the following components. (If you find a component is missing, write about it.)

  • Hook: arouses the audience’s attention. (Was there one? What was it? Explain.)
  • Establishes the relevance of the topic to the audience. (did the speaker make the topic relevant to the audience? If not, say so.)
  • Establishes speaker credibility (Did the speaker reveal that they knew something about the topic? explain.)
  • Presents the speech’s thesis (Was there a thesis? Was it clear? Explain.)
  • Previews the speech (Did the speaker mentions their main points in the introduction? )

PART TWO: DELIVERY

Discuss the speaker’s success, or lack of success, in the following areas:

  1. PHYSICAL DELIVERY
  • Maintains strong eye contact  (Explain.)
  • Natural/expressive gestures (Explain.)
  • Confident stance & deportment (Explain.)
  1. VOCAL DELIVERY
  • Varies rate (not too fast or slow; uses pauses effectively)
  • Vocal variety adds impact (energy in voice)
  • Articulation/pronunciation (Explain.)
  • Fluency (no awkward pausing)
  • Clear language. Controls habit words (“like,” “um,” “you know,” “kinda”)
  • Communicates enthusiasm

I expect clear, concise writing that demonstrates you have proofread carefully because there are no grammatical errors. You will lose points if the writing is unclear and you write less than the minimum number of words.

Each topic heading should be in bold. It should be easy for me to identify your central points because you have identified key words in bold. For example, “The speaker’s vocal variety was evident. He spoke with great enthusiasm and energy, although he often used habit words that were distracting.”  Do not write two long paragraphs!

7 WAYS GAME REWARD THE BRAIN by Tom Chatfield
PART ONE: CONTENT
INTRODUCTION
The speaker started his talk on how he loves playing video games and everything about it, how it was created, the technology used in it, and what power they hold to affect and impact a player's daily life. He sparked the audience's interest in video games when he presented how big the industry has gotten from the 1990s to 2010s. I would say this hooked the audience's attention, knowing there are billions and billions of dollars spent on things that only exist virtually. This has even surpassed the music industry three times more. At first, it may seem like the talk is exclusively addressed to people who love playing games, but the subject's relevance extended to non – gamers alike. The speaker presented different things found in the game that we can adapt to in our daily lives. There is no particular thesis presented in the talk. However, the speaker presented real games played by millions of people and collected data to back up his claims. Using such games like "World of Warcraft," which is known to many people, really helps his presentation's credibility. By the time he had finished his introductory statement, he had shown a preview of what we have to expect on his talk: The Power of Virtuality. What is it, and how does the virtual world of gaming benefit us?
PART TWO: DELIVERY
Judging from the venue's size, there must at least a hundred people present in the audience. The speaker tried to keep his audience engaged by making eye contact by looking at the left, center, and right directions from time to time. I had noticed this had been the pattern when he started talking, looking at people from left to right. This practice can be considered good because he has maintained sufficient eye contact with the audience, but his actions can be regar...
