Analysis of the visual rhetoric in Baddawi and City of Clowns

Essay Instructions:

Your visual analysis essay should be 550 words and should offer an analysis of the visual rhetoric in Baddawi and City of Clowns. More specifically, you should focus your essay on a close visual analysis of a single page from each text. A successful essays will demonstrate your ability to present a comparative argument about those pages. This essay should move beyond a simple aggregation of similarities and differences. I am primarily interested in your ability to analyze each text closely and to use appropriate evidence in support of your claims.
KEY COMPONENTS OF A SUCCESSFUL ESSAY
• Your essays should be guided by a strong, evolving thesis. A thesis should not be confused with a topic, which represents only the subject area of an essay. Instead, a good thesis must be arguable; arguability distinguishes a thesis from a fact (clearly demonstrable in the text) or an observation (an interpretation so obvious that no intelligent reader would challenge it). Please remember that a thesis is not static, and that it should gain nuance and sophistication as it develops over the course of the essay.

• The argument of the essay should be driven by a problem, question, or tension in the text. This is the intellectual context for why your thesis matters. If it doesn’t promise to illuminate, deepen, or solve a problem, an essay risks irrelevance. Remember to identify the stakes of your argument early in your essay: Why does it matter, and to whom? Who cares about this problem or question, and how does your analysis offer valuable insight? Your reading should illuminate something in the text that would otherwise remain unnoticed or obscure; remember, you are making the implicit explicit through writing.

• Your primary argument and other claims should be supported by textual evidence. This does not mean inserting a quotation and simply moving on. You should analyze carefully the language of your evidence, ponder why that evidence is relevant to your argument, and incorporate it smoothly into your prose.

• Your essay should be organized and proceed logically. The paragraphs of your essay should be stitched together in a way that helps readers understand how each one extends the argument that’s come before and also prepares them for the argument that is still to come. Think carefully about your transitions.

• Finally, your essay should be polished. Good writing generally includes an early draft and revisions. Make sure your paper is error-free in terms of spelling and grammar. You cannot fully divorce content from form—style affects meaning and vice versa. Well-styled arguments tend to be stronger.
• The paper can be written in any paper style

Baddawi
The picture in Baddawi novel shows a boy who has come to a crossroad holding his hands behind his back. The path in which he stands is wide, smooth and seems passable. Behind the boy a bunch of trees storm symbolizing the green, fertile and comfortable known life of the little boy. From where he has travelled seems all well known to him. Between the boy and the far end of the ridges at which he stands is a dry, crampy and desert like area. The area has two paths with one path on the left hand of the boy being shorter a little bit wider in width but with broad shades of darkness. The path to the right is narrow and longer to get to the brighter side. The patch of darkness or what seems like a river is narrower compared to the one on the left. The boy has to decide the path to take to get to the futuristic world. The stage of life the boy is at he has to make a decision whether to follow the nomadic life (culture) as exemplified in the story by the Bedouin tribe or pursue modernity through education. Either paths would take the boy to the future world; one path would be wide and shorter with few hurdles or worries while the other characterized by long, narrow and more problems to get to the end.
