Introduction
Although change is inevitable in an organization, it can be challenging to implement. For instance, if Starbucks identifies the need to extend the training period for new hires and baristas from the current 80 hours, not all employees might agree with it. Change must be incorporated into an organizational culture for it to be effective. Resistance to change by primary stakeholders in a firm is the primary cause of the failure of the successful change process.
Reasons for Resistance to Change
For organizations to implement change successfully, they must involve all stakeholders or change agents. However, the reasons for resistance to change might include job insecurity, the fear of the unknown, organizational politics, mistrust, and misunderstanding of why change is needed.
