Business Ethics Your Name Subject and Section Professor’s Name June 17, 2019 The concept of a free-market has been well-entrenched in our society. It is the center-point of Capitalism that allows for growth, innovation, and opportunity for almost every player in the market. However, despite the importance that we give to laissez-faire economics, it is apparent that there are some industries that are ‘unequally treated’. One of these industries that are hampered by unfair regulations and taxes is the manufacturing industry. In this paper, the fault within our system with regards to the treatment of the manufacturing industry as a whole (as compared to specific segments) would be discussed. Nonetheless, the author of this paper believes that the unfair regulations were not only unethical but also serves as a hindrance to further development in the US economy. The United States’ Manufacturing industry is one of the country’s largest, yet unfairly regulated industry. As a whole, manufacturing accounts for about 78% of the United States’ total production output, which generates profit both domestically and internationally (TradingEconomics.com, 2019). However, it is apparent that this industry is also one of the most vulnerable to changing prices, state policies, and market forces. In a study conducted by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) shows that there are about “297,696 restrictions on their operations from federal regulations” (Gray, 2017). These regulations range from environmental, international, and even social ones that every player must comply with before, during, and after the conduct of their business. Additionally, by comparing these with other countries it would show that the number of US regulations is way higher as compared to countries such as Japan, China, and Germany, among others (McKinsey.com, n.d.). This hampers further growth and development for US manufacturers since most of them would have to focus on trying to comply with the different regulations rather than focusing on developing a new product, improving existing ones, or exploring a new field...
