Lessons Learned from Corona
Coronavirus has reminded us that we are limited. The United States and the world have not all the resources needed to counter an emergent pandemic. The richest nation, United States, is not able to provide health officers with all basic supplies needed in the war against coronavirus. The country is also not in a position to offer protection to its health workers at present. The country is facing this pandemic just the same way it has for the recent pandemics. The people are still divided by ignorance and bias and not aware of what involves proper character at a time of crisis. This showed the difference when America faced the polio crisis in 1949 (Oshinsky 2020). Though the resources were few, there was a greater determination and zeal.
From Covid-19, another lesson learned is the cause of death. From developing to the developed world, people are more likely to succumb to contagion than non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular disease or cancer. The Spanish flu that occurred from 1918 to 1920 killed more people than the world war that was happening at the same time. Statistics show that the flu killed approximately 100 million people globally 675,000 in the United States alone (PBS 2018). Influenza grew and spread rapidly, just like Covid-19. Unfortunately, the disease varnished on its own, indicating it can sweep the human population again. These pandemics, unlike non-communicable diseases, are spread through day-to-day interactions, thus leading to more and new infections.
The disease also displays a weakness in the continents’ interconnections. Global relations provide a link that enhances the spread of infectious diseases. The long supply chains are vulnerable ...
