You can choose to engage with the author’s key argument presented in the readings, or you may pick one quote or a short passage one of the readings and discuss it. You should divide your response into three brief parts: o A brief summation of the key or central arguments in a few lines. Reading response: Rethinking CSR in the age of climate change
This paper responds to an article by Allen W. Myria and Christopher A. Craig published in the International Journal of Corporate Social Responsibility. In the wake of rising global temperatures, the authors point out that communities, citizens, and corporate organizations need to view Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a necessity rather than a voluntary luxury. It is expected that climate challenges will pose serious disruptions to business activities by midcentury. The authors propose that different stakeholders refocus their CSR efforts taking into account the climate challenges the planet is facing. Communication can be used to create more sustainable supply chains and resilient communities. Communication, according to the article, is the means that enables the creation of CRS activities as well as the sharing of information with key stakeholders such as employees, competitors, communities, governments, and supply chains.
The article by Allen and Craig raises an important issue that is relevant to every member of the planet. A key strength of the article is the postulation of the climate challenges that are bound to affect the planet by midcentury. The information is sourced from credible sources, a report the 2013 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the World Resource Institute. This shows that the threat is real and different stakeholders can be convinced to direct efforts towards solving the climate challenges.
