Genesis 22 focuses on the test of Abrahams’ faith that is after being requested to build an altar and sacrifice his son Isaac in the land of Moriah. It is with a heavy heart that he prepares a place for which to offer sacrifice but God later reveals a ram for slaughter. The test is intended to understand Abraham’s faithfulness in God and he reiterates his promise. In the book of Exodus 1-15, the Bible focuses on the suffering and oppression of the Israelites in Egypt the land of captivity. There was growing enmity between the Egyptians and Israelites, and the Pharaoh’s attempts to destroy the Israelites are futile, this demonstrates God’s love and promise to the faithful that he will protect them.
Isaiah 40-55 looks into the plight of Israelites as God’s people, comforting them to believe in God as was promised that the Judean peoples glory would be restored. It is an encouragement to the Israelites who also lived in exile in Babylon to remain hopeful despite the city of Jerusalem having been destroyed. God’s vision to the Israelites is laid out as prophet Isaiah affirms God as a loving restorer. Salvation is a recurring theme in the Book of Isaiah, and the prophecies and the nations are made holy with a view of fulfilling God’s message.
