A. Watch the movie Office Space (1999, starring Jennifer Aniston).  This comedy is about the daily lives of office workers in the late 20th century. 
While you are watching the movie, think about the following questions:
Why, in your opinion, do so many white collar office workers feel that their work is repetitious and filled with drudgery?
If you were the human resources director for this company, what kinds of things would you do to make work more interesting?
What kind of job would make you interesting in coming to work every day and why?
B. Watch the movie Norma Rae (1979, starring Sally Field, who won Oscar for Best
 Actress), is a gripping story about workers’ rights and the union organizing movement in the South. 
While you are watching the movie, think about the following questions:
What advantages or disadvantages do you think working people experience when they vote to form a union?
What happens when working people are divided along color lines?
Why, in your opinion, does the South have lower union membership?
C. Watch the movie North Country (2005, starring Charlize Theron), the story of the first major sexual harassment lawsuit in the United States.
While watching the movie, think about the following questions:
In your opinion, how much of a problem is sexual harassment in the American workplace?
How can men and women both insure that sexual harassment does not occur in the workplace?
If you were a victim of some form of harassment, what would you do?  Explain your answer.
D. Watch the movie The Devil Wears Prada (2006, starring Anne Hathaway), Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel about a young woman who stumbles into the hectic worlds of high fashion and publishing comes to the big screen in this comedy.
While watching the movie, think about the following questions:
What is it about Miranda that scares so many people? Why do people continue to work for her despite her abusive attitude? What is it that makes her so good at her job?
Why do you think Human Resources sent Andy to be interviewed by Miranda? Is Andy a good fit for the job?  How do you think she made the screening process?  
How is Andy different to the other employees of Runway? Why do the others see this as a negative thing? Why does Andy find it so difficult to deal with Miranda's attitude and demands?
Why is Emily so unpleasant to Andy? Why is her job, and going to the Paris fashion week, so important to Emily? What are her priorities in life? How do you think working for Runway has affected her and her worldview?
Why do you think that Andy decides to get a makeover? How does it change the way other people at work, especially Miranda, view her?  What does this say about the superficial attitude of many people?
How does her time at Runway change Andy? Are they positive or negative changes? How does leaving Runway change her?
Assignment:  For whatever movie you choose, write a 5-page paper in which you address the questions posed for each movie, as well as any other human resources issues which the movie raises for you.  Your paper should be written in an essay format.  It should be typewritten, double-spaced, with 1” margins on all sides.  You will be graded on style, content, critical analysis and grammar/punctuation.  The paper MUST be emailed to me by May 4, 2020.

Harassment: A Story of Neglect
Nowadays, most people treat a situation, whether correct or wrong, as part of a norm. This leads the society to face several issues that have long been on the line to achieving justice. Most of these issues involve women because they have been portrayed throughout history as material things that can be neglected, thrown, or worse, destroyed. The injustices done to them have been the subject of many discussions around the world. One of these issues includes harassment and its adverse effects.
Movies have become a great platform in portraying these events. One of the best films that depicted harassment in women is the 2005 film, the North Country. This tells a story of a single mother named Josey Aimes, who is part of a group of the first women to work at a local iron mine in Minnesota. Offended that they have to work with women, male workers at Eveleth Mines lash out at them and subject them to sexual harassment.
Appalled by the constant stream of insults, sexually explicit language, and physical abuse, Josey, despite being cautioned against it by family and friends she still files a historical sexual harassment lawsuit. Likewise, the protagonist has experienced harassment cases that proved to be damaging to the character's personality. Moreover, the company did not do anything about it. Throughout the film, it is impossible not to let my blood boil because looking for justice in a society where everyone is afraid to change the current situation of patriarchy and prejudice. Like Josey, which gathers her courage and seeks help from an attorney to represent her in the court, in an America, although harassment is still an issue, more and more women dare to fight against sexual harassment and discrimination. But then, it is complicated to ascertain the degree to which sexual or physical provocation that happens in the workplace. Several pieces of research show that sexual harassment is still extensive and that it necessitates a severe toll on the victim's lives and occupations. Likewise, experts point out that the before-mentioned studies evoke acknowledgments only from those people who have encountered and endured sexual harassment and that such occurrence rates may be inflated.
The rate of harassment, whether physical or sexual, is underrated since people treat most cases as customary. This is also evident in the film where offenders neglect the fact that they are forcing themselves to Hosey. Instead, these offenders have treated the case as entertainment for themselves. Josey, on the other hand, did not dare to criticize such downgrading acts, thereby neglecting her responsibility herself to report the incident to the authorities out of immense fear.
But nowadays, some people recognize harassment as unlawful, submitting, and reporting the issue to the Human Resources department of their workplace and seeking support and justice. More and more men and women are appearing to accept the true definition of harassment.
