In my final paper, I will write an art review of Bill Viola’s artwork Silent Mountain detailing how strong and wide can human beings’ emotions can be. In the word, the long-time silence, however, can convey various emotions such as surprise, anger and ecstasy to the audience, which is its main successful point.
Silent Mountain is an interesting piece of art, created with unique artistic features. Bill Viola created this color video to explore the power and width of human emotions. It was part of series of artworks known as The Passions. One of the main features of this artwork is that there is a removal of sound and inclusion of time factor. Therefore, this allows the relocation of the subjects to a dimension that is beyond us. There is an extended silence as the artwork plays, and can eb related to a painting dedicated to devotions. One this about this artistic film is that it rebels against the conventional approaches in making mainstream films. The emotions we can see through this artwork include misery, rage, wonder, and ecstasy. The movements, artistic skills, and other elements assist in making the film communicate strong emotions to the audience. (One Minute or Less)
As watches the film, the first question is to establish why the man is screaming. This gives us something to ponder and probe further about the meaning of the whole art. Some of the thoughts one can have is thinking that the man has depression, or is suffering from something dreadful. Through this film, we can see how Bill Viola created an ecstatic piece that communicates a range of emotions. It exposes the human mind to dimensions that causes it to probe further what can possible be attained through the approach. When a person watches Silent Mountain, they cannot help but ask what may be happening with the characters. There are various feelings that arise as one looks at the characters.
