Ansel Easton Adams was an American environmentalist and landscape photographer born in 1902 in San Francisco, California, and died in 1984. He is popularly known for his black-and-white portraits of the American West. His photography and art efforts contributed to the foundation of Group f/64, an organization of photographers supporting “pure” photography. Pure photography indulged in applying the full tonal range of a portrait while keeping an eye on a sharp focus.
