Since colonial times, Canada has been involved in various wars. The nature of these wars has changed over time. The roles of women in this war have also changed over time. This was mainly contributed by the need to fill in for the positions held by the men who had been killed during the war. Women worked as engineers, ticket collectors, and bank tellers. They also produced canned food for the soldiers and also raised funds to finance aircraft, hospitals, and ambulances. Therefore, Canadian women took up their tasks and embraced their roles and responsibilities, ranging from home to the industries, nursing, and military.
Women were enrolled in civilian jobs, which had been filled by men who had died during the war. Due to the demand to fill in this space, women were thus enrolled in industries, farms, and in the healthcare jobs. They acted as engineers, bank tellers, and firefighters (women at war). Food was produced, and funds were raised to assist in running the economy. Ammunition used in the war were produced as there was a high demand. This level of participation depicted by women contributed to Canada’s victory. During the war, women portrayed their strength, skills, and ability to do work previously done by men.
