Personal Statement
Almost everyone who has done something of great relevance in their lives or the society speaks of a time when they almost gave up. While speaking of such times, many shed tears, others will vividly explain their ordeal, and the rest just smile. The tears, words, and smiles these people exude are both nostalgic and triumphal because alas, they have finally made it to their destination. However, many will ignore or speak less about their destination and mainly focus on their journey. Emphasis is usually on how they struggled, gave up at times, and searched from deep within their tired and limping hearts for extra strength and motivation. These people will speak of times when they were injured, had no one, suffered depression, and had to fight battles that few were aware of. But, one thing that unites them all is the fact that they never gave up. They kept fighting and with each passing day, they found a reason to wake up, lace up, and head out. For me, such stories lift me up. I find myself listening, reading, and watching such stories because I find a reason to keep going. While in trouble or going through a touch time, I find strength and hope in knowing that someone else was here and they made it through.
While looking at the military, many forget the struggle and difficulties people go through. People criticize them, some even go to the extent of calling them incompetent, but few can survive the severe conditions these individuals go through while training. My story is one that resonates with the spirit of never-giving up. It is a story that can inspire, motivate, and cause someone to keep fighting. The lessons we get from our journeys defines us in many ways. One particular occasion had me question my quest of one day serving my country. However, with my mind strengthened by those who succeeded before me, I continued striving.
On the said day and occasion, sweat was dripping from my face. I felt the breeze as I ran with my comrades on the red paved track. I looked forward to the next challenge in Basic Combat Training, the 6 mile ruck march. As the group took turns sprinting, the team leader motivated everyone to push their physical limits.
