Face-to-face vs. Online Learning – Why Face-to-face classes are better
Every student has a different way of learning things. Some thrive more in reading, those who do well in listening, and others who learn most when doing things. In line with the current situation that we are facing today, these differences in ‘learning styles’ have created the debate as to whether face-to-face classes are better than online learning. Although each of these kinds of learning methodologies has its own benefits and disadvantages, I believe that face-to-face learning is still better to increase comprehension, retention, and application of what students learn.
Why Face-to-face is Best
One of the reasons why face-to-face learning is the best kind of methodology is that it provides a more hands-on experience. Different students could have different learning styles, and another style (i.e., auditory) might not be as effective and productive as others (i.e., kinesthetic). Nonetheless, the traditional classroom provides a diverse platform for maximizing each of these learning styles, including discussions, group work, and physical activities. This is made possible since the school (or academe) provides better facilities and environment for the learning process compared to most homes. In contrast, online learning would mostly limit these avenues or compel the student to do activities by himself.
