Political Science: “Tokenism and Distraction” Strategy
Since the presidential campaigns to date, most African Americans have overwhelmingly opposed the president and the reasons are evident: Trump often spewed racist connotations during his campaigns and has maintained that blacks as inferior. In one incident while serving as the president, he called African states as “Shithole countries.” In spite of Trump’s racial slur and actions directed towards the black minorities, his approval ratings among the blacks is improving to 36% according to the USA Today (Cummings, 2018). There is a tactic that minorities use to win the president and the congress’ support. Ben Carson, Kanye West, and lately the Michigan’s Senate candidate, John James, have tactfully applied the “tokenism and distraction” strategy to win attention. The image of Trump as the most pro-black president in the American history has improved subsequently (Cain, 2018). This new turn of events have seen Trump and congress members supporting black candidates and other minorities running for senate political positions.
