Introduction
In America, immigration can be defined as the worldwide movement of non-U.S citizens to the Country with the purpose of permanently residing there. Most Americans can trace their ancestry to immigrants from other countries internationally America being a colonial settler society. Several studies suggest that immigration has been beneficial to the United States. President Donald Trump, however, has a different view of immigrants, he sees them as criminals. The President’s immigration policy is to counteract the illegal immigration to the United States. His policies were subject to four issues namely; increased border security funding, restrictions on family-based immigration, ending the diversity visa lottery and a path to citizenship dreamers. The paper tries to find out the role the state of Texas can play in this immigration policy.
Although immigration laws emanate from the federal government, states also have got laws that form regulations for state operations associated with immigration. Mostly the State laws are linked to state benefits, education, employment and licensing. Texas State should play a significant role in the immigration policy by coming up with State immigration legislation and rules regarding individual immigration status (Ryan p.5). Texas immigration Laws should be based on law enforcement on immigrants. For instance, immigration checks in educational institutions and employment, coming up with E-Verify requirements and restrictions of state benefits based on individual immigration status (Ryan pg.8).
