Introduction
The issue of illegal immigration has gripped the United States for several years. However, as the state with most illegal persons, California has a huge role in how laws affecting the issue are addressed. As a result, any national debate has crucial implications in California. Consequently, various bills have been proposed aiming to provide a solution to this menace. Therefore, this paper seeks to examine a bill proposed by Kevin McCarthy geared towards curbing illegal immigration.
The bill is titled “H.R. 7059: To fund construction of the southern border wall and to ensure compliance with federal immigration law” The bill was sponsored by the representative for California’s 23rd congressional district, Kevin McCarthy. The bill simply seeks to reinforce President Donald Trump promise of building walls around states prone to immigration. Therefore, California state government will be required to release funds for the construction of the border. However, since the bill was introduced into Congress on October 12, 2018, it is still in the first stage of the legislative process.
Consequently, successful passage of the bill would require the treasury department to adhere to federal immigration laws and build the border wall. The border wall will have marked entry points that will be used to manage any entrance from immigrants originating from Mexico. Since immigrants will have no alternative way of entering California other than the marked entry points, thus the immigration numbers will greatly reduce.
