St. Sernin is a famous old church situated in Toulouse, France. It was built using the Romanesque style that was famous between 1080 and 1120. Reims Cathedral, on the other hand, is a cathedral of Roman Catholic, with its location being famous for the coronation of Kings in France. It is also known as Notre-Dame De Reims and was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The two cathedrals are icons that stand to date, sharing many similar as well as different features. The differences are broken down and grouped into three significant differences: the use of towers, buttresses, and windows (Pearse, 2016).
The exterior view of Reims Cathedral consists of flying buttresses detached from the church as opposed to St. Sernin, which has ordinary buttresses. The detached buttresses in Reims Cathedral make it look more of a church and, subsequently, spiritually fulfilling. Reims also had very few structure supports while St. Sernin had many strong structure support pillars inside it. Therefore, St. Sernin used pillars in the interior as opposed to Reims that used pillars for entrance support and decorations. One can quickly notice these differences. St. Sernin was constructed using the Romanesque style that adopted heavy frames in its structures different from Reims Cathedral, whose frames were a bit slender.
