World politics is a critical issue in collective security for international institutions. Political instability is a factor that is necessary to maintain peace through institutions, for example, the United Nations (UN). The UN, an international institution, was formed with a core duty of collective security worldwide (Frieden et al., 2019). However, international institutions’ responsibility of collective security faces challenges that can lead to other issues or concerns.
Ethnic divisions in different parts of the world are a significant challenge to collective security by international institutions such as the UN. Yugoslavia, for instance, is a country that experienced ethnic animosity in 1992.
