This American Life: Life After Death
At some point in life, many people blame themselves for the unfortunate things that happen, and which an individual cannot control. For example, David Maxon, a 12-year-old boy, believed that he called the evil spirits using a three-inch metal crucifix in a church camp which led to the death of six children who were struck by lightning. Similarly, Darin Strauss lived to blame himself for hitting Celine Zilke, a 16-year-old girl, who was cycling when lost focus and entered the road (Glass, 2008).
When I listened to Maxon and Strauss, I empathized with them that it was not their fault since nothing would have been done to prevent the bad occurrences. But then, it is challenging for them to accept it since they believe to have killed other people. I have learned that there are things that we cannot control or prevent. Additionally, bad incidents can happen to good people, which should not mean that these individuals are to be blamed.
