Clinical psychology is a scientific field that broadly deals with the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment/management of emotional, mental, and behavioral anomalies/ disorders (American Psychological Association, 2014). In the modern days, optimal health goes far beyond physical wellbeing. It includes other aspects, such as the emotional, spiritual, and mental wellbeing of a person. The clinical psychology field aims to help mitigate the issues arising from emotional, mental, and behavioral aspects. It is particularly important to deal with these aspects because if they are left unmanaged, they have the potential to influence physical health negatively. For instance, depression is a psychological disorder that could negatively affect the physical health of the person affected.
In modern practice, clinical psychology is purely and heavily anchored in scientific findings. The scientific process has been established as a great way to inform evidence-based practice in many fields, including clinical psychology (Kramer et al., 2019). There are numerous benefits that are accrued from basing the practice of clinical psychology on scientific findings. First, research anchored on science is developed using the scientific process. This process has been well designed to ensure that the results achieved are objective and can be relied upon.
