The advantage of using a repeated measures design was that the 295 subjects were enough to give valid analysis findings. Fewer subjects provided for a controlled environment which was cost-effective and cheap. Moreover, the researchers were able to establish the outcomes over a time period.
What is the most important threat to internal validity for this study and justify your answer?
The most significant threat to internal validity is maturation. The undergraduates are over-exposed to feigning and coaching over time, making them better at it. The coached feigning of respondents could influence their improved response to the PAI and MMPI-2 tests in unwanted ways. As the results were compared to the initial standard tests, the outcome of the feigned tests would be over-exaggerated. Ultimately, this would lead to biased findings.
