Rapid development in all areas has led to an increase in occupational stressors. Inflation has caused poverty, still, people find it hard to find jobs which pay them well, give them a suitable environment to work in and also compliments their mental health. Within the work-industry, two perspectives prevail; the employers perspective and the employee’s point of view. The employer has a completely different set of goals, ambition, and target. He/she wants to see the company thrive, bloom and produce maximally. Their view is beyond an individual nature rather towards the betterment of the entire company. They have to provide a nourishing and advanced environment for their employees to work hard and with ease. On the other hand, employees tend to work for themselves. They may have positive views and ambitions for their firm but work by focusing on their given agenda. In order to keep a balance between employers and employees, organizational psychology has studied many factors which influence the productivity and efficiency of both the companies, employers and employees. These work environments have occasionally been highlighted in the media industry as well. The portrayal of work ethics and organizational commitment have ranged from ideal to the worst scenarios. While people may find the movie quite attractive, the occupational representation may be deceiving at times. Keeping in mind, some organizational factors, following section will be reviewing the movie ‘The Intern’ which focuses on an old-age retired, widowed man who starts to work as an intern in a newly established and flourishing firm. The movie highlights both perspectives; struggles of a developing company as well as the determination of the employer. Selection Employee selection is a rigorous procedure of finding the right person for the right job. It is a process of screening out applications and going through the skill set of all applicants to fit with the company’s vacancies. The selection itself is important for the company to save time and money. Finding the correct candidate ultimately benefits the company by reducing the turnover rate and absenteeism. A typical selection procedure involves the initial designing of the job advertisement with an eligibility criterion. The candidates who apply are then called in for a preliminary interview. This interview is purposed to eliminate any candidates who do not fall up to the eligibility standards, assess family/educational/occupational background, find more about the candidate’s skills, competencies, and interests. The second step is to collect and screen out all the filled out application forms highlighting the candidate’s demographics and essentials. Applicants who are then verified eligible for the job are asked to attempt required written tests e.g. an intelligence test, aptitude test, psychological tests, etc. These tests provide unbiased results of each applicant.
