Based on the information provided by a good friend of mine, there is tremendous potential for similarity, both real and perceived (that is, the extent to which my new acquaintance and I are objectively identical, as evaluated by the provided similarity information) and across different dimensions (for example, leisure interests, traits, attitudes). Research indicates that shared attributes would likely generate a more significant liking for one another once we meet (Sprecher, 2023). I expect to like the new acquaintance due to the similarity effect, and the new friend would reciprocate the exact liking. Since I have acquired information concerning the stranger that suggests they are similar to me, I will shift my behaviors to ensure the conversion is more enjoyable and based on my personality and character (Sprecher, 2023). For example, I expect the new acquaintance to be a smart person like myself, and thus I will likely talk about analytical themes to allow them to demonstrate their intelligence.
Self-fulfilling prophecy augmented the new acquaintance's potential to be the kind of a person I expected them to be based on the social constructionism hypothesis. In this context, social beliefs about the type of person I expected to meet altered reality and shaped my behavior. The self-fulfilling prophecy influenced my expectations about the new person, thus initiating a sequence of events or behavioral changes that made the fallacious expectation true (Madon et al., 2018). Self-fulfilling prophecy influenced my education because I had higher expectations of acquiring knowledge via effective classroom interactions, which augmented my academic performance (Chandrasegaran, 2018). In the workplace, my self-concept values influence my actions toward workmates, thus influencing how they treat me based on my character. This has played a central role in reducing the potential for conflicts in the workplace as I ensure to treat others appropriately. Lastly, a self-fulfilling prophecy influences my relationships in that I model my behavior to elicit the right emotions and attitudes others have toward me, thus creating more sustainable and authentic interactions (Sprecher, 2023).
