Karen Carpenter was a singer and drummer who played for most of her life alongside her brother Richard Carpenter. During their early years in music, the two were described as “young America at its very best.” (McKay, 2018). The Carpenters brought back the mellow and smooth sound of romance that had been erased by hard rock. Therefore, audiences at the time adored the Carpenters for their music.
