Battling the COVID 19 pandemic has not been easy for the worldwide populations. Everyone in the demographic is worried about the health issue, including the countries that have not reported any cases because they do not know how long it will take before falling victims of the prevailing circumstances. The disease has negatively impacted the social, political, economic, and religious lifestyles of vast populations. Hence, it is almost impossible for individuals to adapt to the situation, especially the infected people, their families, and friends. What people might have thought would not last long has prevailed and taken over the world. Nothing can explain the situation better than the closed economy. People have to stay locked in their homes. Most of the demographics work while others have even lost their jobs. Schools closed down without a distinct report on when they will reopen. Most countries have closed boundaries to prevent the spread of the virus. The pressure experienced by people in the drastic change brought by COVID 19 is a great threat to people's mental well-being.
COVID 19 can increase the chances of people shifting from being healthy to acquiring abnormal behaviors. Some populations wonder how they should focus on listening and reading articles on the pandemic for various reasons. First, the cure for the disease has not yet been known. Although scientists and medical professionals have tried to research the mystery behind the disorder, it remains a dilemma. Hence, most people are worried about what could happen if they contacted the disease. Second, the infection cases keep on increasing, and the people living in the affected countries cannot stop thinking about their safety. Besides, the symptoms are not realized until after fourteen days, and anyone can contract the disease from an infected individual without their knowledge. This condition has intrigued fear in society as people do not know when they can eventually become victims. These factors can result in the induction of mental disorders as people think of the disease more than anything else, leading to stress due to the fears and worries of getting infected. Rates of anxiety disorder may as well go up due to fear and worry among the populous. Symptoms such as panic, fear, lack of sleep, shortness of breath, restlessness, heart palpitations, etc. could become common with time (week 2 lecture notes). This could be experienced in countries with high rates as well as those with lower rates of infection as people spend their days worrying about whether they will become the next victims.
On the other hand, the pandemic can affect the mental health of health workers adversely. They have different issues that could raise concerns...
