4 Counseling Case Questions Psychology Essay Paper

Essay Instructions:

Answer the following questions. If you were the counselor, what process of ethical decision making would you use to determine the best course of action? Choose one of the following two ethical decision-making models to answer the question: Herlihy & Corey (2014) and Welfel (2016).
Case1.
Marianne, an LCPC in private practice, began working with Ellen, a young woman who came for counseling to deal with what at first appeared to be moderate anxiety. Ellen described herself as a perfectionist and sought counseling to learn to “stop being so hard on myself.” It was only after several counseling sessions that Ellen felt safe enough in the counseling relationship to reveal to Marianne that she was so fearful of becoming “fat” that she regularly engaged in self-induced vomiting after meals, abused laxatives, and exercised excessively. Marianne recognized these behaviors as symptoms of anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa, a problem area with which she had no experience.
Case 2.
Lynn has been counseling Elaine, a 30-year-old client. During this session, Elaine states that she wishes she could just walk away from her marriage, but she can’t do it because it would traumatize the children. Lynn, herself a child of divorce whose father abandoned the family, further explores Elaine’s fears for the children. At one point she says, “Well, yes, the statistics do show that a lot of kids lose touch with their fathers after a divorce. It would be really hard for them if that happened. It could even have repercussions well into their adult years.”
Case 3
Dr. Jones has been supervising Marla’s work as a practicum student. Marla has demonstrated very good skills thus far in her first semester of counseling real clients. Dr. Jones has just watched one of Marla’s sessions from behind the one-way mirror at the practicum clinic and was surprised to see Marla falter midway through the session and continue to give a poor performance. After the session, Dr. Jones sits down with Marla for a supervision session and shares her surprise that Marla’s counseling skills in the session had fallen so far short of her usual abilities. Marla responds by bursting into tears and stating that her personal life is falling apart and she is under incredible stress.
Case 4
Jane has been a client in counseling with Paula for several weeks. Jane’s husband and Paula’s husband both serve on the advisory board for a charitable organization, and the two husbands begin to develop a friendship. They decide that they would like for their wives to meet and that the two couples should go out to dinner together. After learning about this dinner plan, Paula figured out Jane was her client.

4 Counseling Case Questions
Case1.
I will use Herlihy & Corey's (2014) ethical decision-making model to examine and recognize Ellen’s problem. Ellen claims that she was seeking counseling to learn to “stop being so hard on myself” is beside the point. Therefore, I will collaborate with the client to define the problem of the underlying problem, which, in this case, is anorexia nervosa (Luke, Goodrich & Gilbride, 2013). Thirdly, I will develop an array of solutions with the client then choose that which I think could be suitable. Then, I will review the process with the client and re-choose the remedy that is the most suitable not only to her but also the one that will best address her condition. I will ensure that we engage in an extensive analysis of her state to neutralize her worries and fears as we try to settle on the most convenient approach (Rave & Larsen, 1995). Then, I will embark on implementing and evaluating the chosen solution with the client to establish whether or not it is bearing fruits. Lastly, I will continue to reflect on her progress to avoid treating a misdiagnosis.
Case 2.
Firstly, I will delve into Elaine’s case to establish the primary cause making her wish to walk away from her marriage. Secondly, I will collaborate with the client to define and analyze whether or not the problem is worth taking her indented risk (Forester-Miller & Davis, 2009). Thirdly, we will embark on developing a broad scope of solutions with the client that she can choose from. Fourthly, I will use my experience as a child of divorce to choose for my client the remedy, which I suppose would best address her problem. I shall then review the process with the client and allow her to re-choose the strategy that would be favorable to her, the children, and her husband (Luke, Goodrich & Gilbride, 2013). Elaine shall then proceed to implementation during which, I will evaluate and monitor whether or not our solution would have detrimental impacts on the family as a whole. Lastly, I will continue to reflect on the entire process to avoid using personal experience and emotion to make decisions.
Case 3.
Firstly, like Dr. Jones, I will...
