STRATEGIC FAMILY THERAPY Name: Instructor: Course: Date: STRATEGIC FAMILY THERAPY – EVOLUTION OF THE MODEL Strategic therapy was birthed from the communications theory – which transformed into three different models. That is the MRI’s brief therapy, Haley and Madanes’, and the Milan systemic model. Anthropologist, George Bateson, and alienist Milton Erickson are behind the MRI from which all the three evolved. Rockefeller Foundation allowed the research on paradox in communication in 1952. The study team included John Weakland, Don Jackson, and Bateson himself who call the other two on board. The research is what led to the conception of family therapy. The study findings noted that the communication of multilayered messages between persons outlined their relationships. Although Bateson did not conform to the act of manipulating individuals, it is ironic that he is the one who came up with the idea and introduced it to the study team. Erickson applied hypnotic principles to alter resistance to advantage. This was known as paradoxical interventions. In 1959, Don Jackson established the MRI and brought on board Jay Haley, Richard Fisch, John Weakland among other creative individuals. The team came up with a short process premised upon interfering with the vicious cycles that happen when trials to answer a problem just worsen them. The present therapies are precise by default. However, Palo Alto approach was precise by design. The Palo Alto approach was also called the MRI model. The Basic Model sought to come up with the computation of human communication. It did so in a series of axioms. One is that persons are often communicated. This is preceded by the logic that all communications have both report and command functions.
