Comcast started as a “single-system cable operator” in 1963 and has gone on to penetrate other markets, especially in entertainment, media, and technology (Comcast, n.d.). In the course of its operation, Comcast has employed several strategies. Even prior to the NBCUniversal deal, Comcast has used acquisition as its main strategy and in particular, vertical acquisitions. The first vertical integration happened in 1965 when Comcast purchased Storecast Corporation of America (Comcast, n.d.). Storecast was a marketing firm that assisted food companies in delivering their products to supermarkets. This acquisition allowed Comcast to use Storecast’s marketing segment in its marketing and sales primary activity of the value chain.
