A logistics information system is where one has to manage, measure and control the multiple logistical activities. A specific organization conducts all of these activities. Just like other fields and systems where the provision of timely and accurate information is needed, the logistics information system is considered incomplete if accurate data is not provided on time. It has to ensure customer satisfaction and maintain the organization’s reputation, and if the information is not available, then the chances of losing customers become high. For instance, orders have to be confirmed and processed timely, payments need to be made without any delay, and the availability of materials in the stock has to be checked. All these things are likely to be impacted if data is not available, affecting the overall logistics information system and ruining the image of the company (Xiao, 2010).
Additionally, the online sharing of information is needed so that the customers remain updated about the new arrivals and hot offers on a regular basis. In case of delays, the relationship between the vendor and the retailer may get impacted. The availability of timely information or accurate data appears to be incumbent on the efficiency of an organization and encompasses multiple dimensions (Xiao, 2010, p. 45). Not only this but also it helps strengthen the relationship between the company and its suppliers, and ensures both employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction to an extent.
