The Health Executive Services Research Assignment: Stress

Group Work (20%):

The group assignment has two components: written report (15%) and presentation (5%).

Your group will be expected to analyze a given organization utilizing Oh &S practices discussed in class and in your readings, as well as incorporating the material from additional journals and textbooks. You will be required to work on this assignment with a group. Students will work together to provide insight and solutions into a case study increasing their understanding of business improvement initiatives and strategies for their successful implementation.

Group Formation: The class will be asked to form groups of no less than four (4) people and no more than five (5) people during this class. Please submit a list of all members in your group, with your full names and student numbers by the end of class. Also choose a name for your group, and indicate that on your sheet that you submit at the end of class.

Group Research Paper 15%

Your group paper should be 12 - 15 pages, excluding the bibliography (Arial or Times New Roman, 12 pitch, with 1" margins; double-spaced).  Your paper will use the following chapter guidelines.

Part One: - Introduce the OH & S issue faced by the organization.

Part Two: Explain why the issue is of importance to the practice of HRM within the organization you researched. Identify the 2 major stakeholders within the organization and how they are affected. 

Part Three – Recommendations - Provide your solution(s), tool(s), to resolve these problems. This solution/tool will be innovative and one that you have developed yourself.

There are multiple sources of information: the news/press, journals, managers and employees, your own experiences, academic and non-academic journals. You must include a bibliography of articles cited, using the APA style.  Your paper will be judged on style (grammar, etc.) and content (the extent and quality of your research, analysis, and recommendations).  See grading matrix provided and on course site.

 Presentation: 5%

 The presentation may follow the headings above (but you can choose to be innovative and be different).  Not all members of your group are required to do the presentation; you may choose two or more people to present, given the time limits. The presenter(s) will stand at the front of the class. Just remember that your group will receive the same mark, so choose your presenter(s) wisely.  Due to time constraints, the presentation will be limited to approximately 10 minutes and about 5 minutes for a question and answer period.  It is a good idea to assign back-up presenters if you are unsure of your ability to attend that particular class.
