 Article synopsis
The author explains how wedding and meeting event organizers have been adversely affected by the current pandemic and the likelihood that they will continue to feel the impacts in the foreseeable future. Although there are other virtual alternatives such as Zoom that are likely to promote the industry, several hotels and events businesses are focused on positive recovery plans even if the future is unpredictable. He also illustrated how hotels have been conducting successful events, weddings, and conferences over the past months and how they have been impacted positively and negatively.
Positive impact on the event industry
Catering creativity
The number of event attendees has been reduced to smaller numbers due to social distancing rules to contain the spread of Covid-19. That has also affected how catering services are administered. Buffets have not been eliminated from the events because food is at the heart of hospitality. Several event organizing companies and hotels have invented great mechanisms to facilitate this. For example, some have developed a gala-to-go offer for groups where event attendees pick meals neatly packaged in a heat-safe box to reduce direct contacts in buffets. This invention has allowed several events to be conducted since Covid-19 protocols are adhered to. Therefore, as more events are allowed to go on, more revenues are generated.
Hybrid and in-person events innovations
Due to travel restrictions and lockdown imposed on several countries, hybrid events have now taken center stage.
