Over the years, gender gap has been a global phenomenon, even in the current 21st century. Despite the increased progress toward gender equality, women still face persistent gaps in access to opportunities and decision making (Barnes & Beaulieu, 2017). Actually, women have fewer opportunities for primary and higher education, minimal political representation, higher health and safety risks, and fewer economic participation opportunities than men. For instance, males earn more and hold senior positions in multinationals, government, and organizations than women (United Nations, 2020). Besides, women have limited influence in essential household decisions, including land and asset ownerships. For example, many women do not influence on how their income is spent up to date. 
Closing gap
The existence of gender gap in the present day can be attributed to the complexities of how societies and economies work. For example, up to date, women still bear the burden of unpaid household chores and look after children and aging parents regardless of their education level. It is difficult for such women to recognize their full potential in the workplace or achieve tremendous success in their careers (Michelmore & Sassler, 2016). Alternatively, women have limited access to credit facilities compared to men, limiting their opportunities for entrepreneurship. In education, women do not enroll in technological and scientific fields, and when they choose these professions, they rarely work in these fields (World Health Organization, 2020). On the other hand, women struggle more than men in finding their first job, and when they get a job, they earn less and work mainly on a part-time basis.
To promote gender equality, it is crucial to improve the quantity and quality of data to enhance public policy evaluation and implementation. By doing so, it will help strengthen the government’s ability to minimize gender gaps in society (Barnes & Beaulieu, 2017). Similarly, removing gender bias in curricula and raising awareness can help women take up careers in the science and technology fields. Employers should provide affordable, good-quality childcare as well as encourage equal sharing of parental leave (World Health Organization, 2020). The government should develop policies that promote and support female enterprises' growth for new businesses and existing firms to enhance entrepreneurship.
