1 Summarize your servant leadership volunteer opportunity by sharing who, what, when, where, why, and how of the experience.
Servant leaders focus on the needs of others, especially those of their team members before prioritizing their interests. In most instances, they acknowledge other people’s perspectives and involve them in the process of making relevant decisions. As a result, it becomes easier to enhance collaboration and trust among all the involved stakeholders (Sipe & Frick, 2015). I believe that I emulate the characteristics of a servant leader in the process of addressing the needs of team members. For instance, I have realized that I focus more on their needs rather than their feelings. In fact, I give them negative feedback on areas they need to improve as part of making relevant decisions.
One of the unique characteristics I portray is committing to the professional development of others in the workplace. I utilize a training needs assessment to ensure that they acquire all the needed skills to do their job effectively. Besides, I am focused on learning the personal goals of the team members and accord them relevant responsibilities to ensure that they accomplish them. Moreover, I listen to them and understand their needs. As a result, I have the opportunity of giving them feedback on areas, which need improvement.

I had a chance of implementing various principles of servant leadership. For instance, I applied the listening skill as a commitment to assessing their needs. I had a chance of giving people full attention after observing their body language. I recognized that I should avoid interrupting them before they finished expressing themselves. Notably, I had a chance of giving feedback on areas that needed improvement. Besides, I applied the empathy principle by striving to understand other people’s perspectives and point of view. I would be more empathetic by setting aside my viewpoints and approach various situations with an open mind.
Moreover, I applied the self-awareness principle by thinking deeply on the influence of my decisions and actions on others in the workplace. For that reason, I enhanced overall self-awareness levels through an understanding of my weaknesses and strengths as a leader. In fact, I would seek feedback from team members with the intent of understanding my impact on others. Lastly, I applied the persuasion principle in encouraging employees on taking actions to ensure that they would take part in the process of making relevant decisions.
