Employment-at-will is a job agreement which states that job agreement can be terminated at any time with no reason or explanation both by employee or employer (Sonne, 2007). It has become a popular trend in recent times which provides flexibility to both parties.
In nonunion companies employment at will is a discipline issue to a great extent. It can be a discipline issue if a member of staff fails to comply with organization policy because of employment at will bound employees by the company’s regulations and policies. In a nonunionized firm, employers hold the utmost power and they just need a reason for the termination of the employment contract. So a disciplinary issue may result in employee termination. On the other hand, in a unionized firm, it can be an issue to some extent. Although the employer’s authority is limited due to the presence of unions and they cannot terminate but give strict punishment to the employees (Feffer, 2017).
