Training and development are essential for a company to achieve the set goals through quality production. The advancement of technology has made it possible for companies to come up with effective and timely practices of the training staff. Self-directed learning is a concept which is being implemented by many companies to reach out employees in all departments. Strategic training requires proper planning and preparation for the employees to develop their skills. In self-direct learning, the staff has the freedom to select training sessions to attend depending on the department. This learning improves the personal skills and knowledge as the human resource management is able to come up with the most effective training practice.
Processes of Self-directed Learning
There is the need to come up with an effective process of self-directed learning as the staff takes responsibility of what training session to attend depending on time and expected results. The training practices by the HRM are supposed to meet the set personal and corporate goals. According to Noe (2010), the following process is the most effective and efficient in developing employees; one is analysis the skills and knowledge of employees to come up with the reason for training. Two is coming up with important content and practices to offer to the staff in training. Three is providing a flexible timetable on which the employees can attend the self-directed learning. Four is ensuring that there is coordination during training as the staff have different learning timings. Lastly, is selecting the most qualified instructors to train and develop employees through self-directed learning.
