From the article Emma by Jane Auston, Emma plays a character that distinguishes different social classes in the society. In this regard, she displays her hospitality to her workmates especially those above her in rank. Furthermore, the author insists that Emma observes courtesy in the way that she relates with others in place of work. In this case, she is regarded as a good servant who is hospitable and above all she also respects others.
Emma is considered to be clever and rich but she does not see the danger of infringing other people's affairs and therefore her mind perception always leads her to the wrong way. Emma has just attended a wedding of Miss Taylor after which she feels that she should match her friend Harriet with Elton who is a preacher. Emma thinks that Elton is attracted to Harriet and therefore she is determined to stop Harriet from accepting the marriage proposal from martin who is a farmer. On the other hand Elton thinks that Emma is in love with him and thus when Christmas comes, he decides to propose to Emma. On contrary, Emma is surprised and tells Elton that she thought he was attached to Harriet. This irritates Elton so much with Emma's words. In this context we can see how Emma takes advantage of Harriet by mil guiding her to turn down martins request and at the end awful as Elton marries another wife.
It is evident from the text that Emma was delighted in that evening and was more than willing to meet her father. What is more important is her joy and therefore her determination cannot be surpassed by anyone or anything. Therefore, she schedules herself to meet her dad at a dinner venue in order to share a meal together. Moreover, the hospitality in Emma is genuine and she even gets more emotional upon meeting her dad. On the other hand, others could see mistakes in Emma. Particularly Mr. knightly was very keen in her acts and could easily point out on and where she always went wrong. It is also very important to note on how Emma's relationship with Taylor and the woodhouse family related. In the same way, the author focuses the concept of hospitality by portraying a positive relationship between the subject characters. However, hospitality can be also analyzed in broad by considering a number of factors.
"Dear Emma bears everything so well," this are words from Emma's father. In context, he meant that Emma was an enduring character who could not give up in any kind of circumstance. Moreover, some took advantage of Emma in a number of ways. This was because she was polite and hospitable to them.
