2 TIMOTHY 3:14-17
1 How many reasons do you see for continuing to love and live the Bible in 2 Timothy 3:14-17? What are they?
First and foremost, scripture plays a very important role in teaching, reproofing, correcting and training of a believer’s life. This is due to the fact that the Bible can be likened to a Christian’s manual and guide book. Secondly, scripture is God’s own words and not the words of men giving it authority and a Christian cannot claim to love God if they do not love God’s own words. Also, a Christian gains knowledge and wisdom that is essential in the walk of salvation as the Bible contains all the lessons and instructions needed by a Christian to journey through salvation. Also, those who followed Scripture were of noble character as said about Lois and Eunice in 2nd Timothy 1:5. Lastly, by reading the Bible a believer is able to be equipped for every good work which is righteousness that Scripture cultivates in a believer.
2 Look at the list in 2 Timothy 3:16. Are they four different benefits or four ways of saying the same thing? If different, how would you define each?
In this verse Paul gives four distinct benefits of Scripture and though they appear the same and repeated, they in fact cater for different situations in a believer’s life. While teaching encompasses the rest, reproof can be used when showing a believer is doing what is not right according to the Bible. Correction is when a believer is shown what is right and training is a process that brings back the believer to the path of righteousness.
3 How do good works relate to faith and salvation in 2 Timothy 3:14-17?
Good works are the indication of the righteousness that Scripture produces in a Christian. Also, a Christian is able to be equipped for every good work through Scripture and that they may not lack in anything.
