Comparing and Contrasting Between Servant Leadership and Followership
Followership and servant leadership are leadership philosophies that are used in corporate organizations to optimize organizational functions. The two ideas of leadership started in ancient times as individuals had to have leaders to lead them (Cotter-Lockard, 2017). Even in our society, some leaders lead subjects who are the followers. Both servant leadership and followership leadership require mutual understanding and trust for successful operationalization and attainment of organizational goals. The leaders and their followers have to cooperate as they need one another to make things work out.
Servant leadership primarily focuses on the well-being and growth of people as well as their communities. This means that a servant leader is tasked with facilitating the growth of employees by harnessing their capabilities for improved personal and performance to benefit the company (Horsman, 2018). Servant leaders share their power with their subjects giving priority to the needs of the employees to optimize their performance and task completion. It requires total commitment and time to become a successful servant leader.
