Introduction
* The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) was started in 2007 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). YOG’s formation was informed by a need for a strategy that integrates young people and inspires youthful populations around the globe to engage in sports and live by the values of Olympic values (Parent et al., 2015, Wong, 2011).
* YOG has created immense opportunities for youth in the sports industry, including becoming an answer to societal problems such as obesity, widening viewership of the Olympic Games, and giving opportunities to the youth for personal growth.
* Sports event organizers international sports federations, and governments have expressed great interest in the relation between youth and sports (Skirstad, Parent, & Houlihan, 2017).
* This paper will explore the concerns, opportunities, challenges, and recommendations in the Youth Olympic Games engagement.
Current situation
* The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 has been postponed to 23rd July 2021, due to Coronavirus Disease-2019 (International Olympic Committee, 2020).
* There are a lot of Youth Olympic games that are tentative
Concerns and opportunities
Opportunities
* YOG programs can be used as a platform through which health education and sensitization are implemented, for instance, on childhood obesity.
* YOG creates avenues through which we can develop global solidarity, enhance tolerance, and nurture mutual respect (Judge, 2014).
* YOG provides an opportunity to champion and air concerns on human rights.
* Apart from YOG fieldwork, YOG offers platforms that allow the participating athletes to know the Olympic values, become aware of other cultures, develop the skills to become ambassadors of their sport and improve their training methods and performance (International Olympic Committee).
. Challenges
* The exploitation, harassment, and harm among young athletes; some extraneous training may cause injuries to young athletes, especially when such kind of training and coaching does not meet IOC standards (Mountjoy, 2020).
* Age falsification (Parry, 2012).
* Age farness; the Olympic games have a period interval of 4 years, and no sport includes 14-year-olds children, and youth sport is restricted to two birth years, this means that a quarter of the legible population is excluded. F...
