The video depicts how students in China prepare for their college entrance examinations. Interestingly, the preparation for the examinations involves significant input from parents, teachers, and students. More importantly the video shows how the college entrance exam is considered a matter of life and death. One of the parents describes the examinations as a “battlefield” (CCTV English, 2016). The students preparing for the exams face extreme pressures from within themselves as well as from parents and teachers. The importance placed on the college entry examinations necessitates the overwhelming pressure that students go through during preparations.
